Dear All,
I would like to share a story of sport girls – Vidya. Vidya plays Kho-Kho and Kabaddi.
Vidya belongs to a poor farmer’s family from Pulkoti village. Her family has eight members including parents and six siblings. Pulkoti village is in one of the worst drought affected areas of Maharashtra. So, income from agricultural activities was meager to provide quality education and nutrition to six children at a time.
In her adolescence, Vidya got introduced to Commonwealth of Learning programme run by Mann Deshi Foundation and enrolled for it to learn about health and hygiene and financial literacy. She got information and training about practices for healthy living. At the end of this programme, a survey was conducted. In this survey, one of the questions asked participants to express their expectations from Mann Deshi in future.
In this survey, Vidya told about her passion to be an athlete. She also shared her family condition and told that family can’t spend on her sports training. So, Mann Deshi’s field staff referred Vidya for training at Mann Deshi Champions which is a sports complex and training centre run under Mann Deshi umbrella.
Later, Vidya started her training of Kho-Kho and Kabaddi. All the athletes practise together at this sports complex which creates healthy and competitive. The athletes along with villagers from nearby villages go on a trek at a nearby hill for spreading fitness awareness and promoting sports. Nearly 150 people become part of this trek every Sunday morning.
Vidya practiced hard and participated in many competitions of Kho-Kho and Kabaddi. While doing this, she got interested in police services and was willing to appear for the screening process. For this, she needed special training to qualify in the physical test. So, she kept such request before Mann Deshi, and her special training started soon.
Vidya is practising hard to appear and qualify for physical screening of Police department. She thanks Mann Deshi-Girls Inspire for providing these facilities and helping her to find her passion.
