Nadia’s determination to make a difference

Nadia Parveen (1)

Nadia Parveen (22) is a resident of Baldia Town Karachi. Nadia completed her matriculation but could not continue her studies as she got married. Her family is financially challenged, and the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown for 3 months made things worse for them. She wanted to work and earn money to support her family and make things a little better for them, but she faced resistance from her family as they were not supportive of her stepping outside the house to work.

Nadia heard about SPARC’s vocational training center from her friend and was surprised to know that she can receive free skills training at the center. Because of her strong interest in supporting her family, she enrolled in the Beautician course at SPARC’s vocational training centre. There she learned basic skills in threading, waxing, hair styling and party make over. She also received trained in facial massage, skincare services and manicure and pedicure.

SPARC’s livelihoods training is complemented by life skills training in health and hygiene, esteem building and communication skills. This provided Nadia with knowledge and confidence to convince her family to allow her to work as a beautician. Currently, Nadia is working at a beauty parlor and she is working hard to support her family  and making a difference in improving their lives.

Her family is thankful to SPARC and GIRLS Inspire for playing a great role in changing her life in the best way possible and for giving Nadia the skills and confidence to work.
