Khalida has never been to any school due to a lack of support from her parents. She is 24 years and lives with her mother and five siblings; her father died 9 years ago. Khalida heard about SPARC’s vocational training center from a friend and was surprised to know that she can receive free skills training at the center. Because of her strong interest in empowering herself, she enrolled for the tailoring and dress making course.
After three months she completed her training in designing, cutting and stitching of dresses. She is now able to make shalwar kameezes, frocks, lehangas and many other traditional outfits. During her skills training, she also received life skills education including health and hygiene, esteem building and communication skills. These skills helped her in building her confidence especially when interacting with other people.
Due to Khalida dedication and hard work, SPARC decided to support her in running her own centre. She was assisted with material and equipment such as sewing machines, threads, various cloth and a tool kit, so that she could start her own centre. Today Khalida trains girls in the same skill at a small centre that she has opened in her own home.
She’s now a successful skill trainer, and her goal through this earning was to save for marriage. She’s fulfilling her own needs and supporting her family. Many girls from the community visit Khalida who has become an inspiration for them.
