Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha celebrated “The International Day of the Girl” in various locations around its project sites with a boat rally, 3 evening shows, two grassroots dialogue sessions, essay and drawing competitions with the themes : “promoting girls’ education in a changing climate” and “stopping child marriage” on the 23 floating schools, and dissemination of relevant publications on its floating libraries.
During the rally, 9 boats moved with banners and called for amplifying girls’ voices and for them to stand up for their rights. The boats travelled in a fleet for 40 kilometers on that day.
Two discussions were held on two-tier boats, and representatives from the community and local government also attended the sessions. The discussions highlighted girls as unscripted and unstoppable. They discussed local strategies to eliminate discrimination against girls in education, skills development and training. Girls participating in the discussion asked questions on their participation in social, economic and political life. About 69 per cent of the participants were women and girls.
